Aurо́ra Lо́tton

Biography

Aurora Lotton’s practice is built on a profound engagement with material. Through play and experimentation with technique, she seeks an artistic method. By consciously relinquishing complete control over the process, the artist allows the material to freely express its natural properties and reveal its potential. Her works often have a dynamic, performative character.
Three main motifs travel across her projects like recurring protagonists: the egg, the cleaning rag, and stakes.
Aurora is interested in how trauma manifests in different forms and what transformations it provokes—this is reflected in the life of her objects, installations, and sculpture-happenings. She explores themes of corporeality, stigmatization and destigmatization, and cyclicality, probing the limits of freedom.
Employing irony, she reassigns the status of everyday objects, transforming them into artworks. She plays with the concept of beauty, experiments with established notions of the beautiful, and uncovers institutional paradoxes.
